November 30, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Video game publisher Atari (atari.com) announced on Wednesday that it was a 2006 InfoWorld 100 Award winner in the category of Computing and Technology for its IT outsourcing project. Atari recently moved its key systems to managed Web host Rackspace Managed Hosting (rackspace.com), helping the company to reduce its capital expenditure and human resources costs.
By hosting its entire internal infrastructure with Rackspace and redeveloping much of its systems on open source software, Atari significantly reduced its capital expenditure and human resources costs.
Rackspace is managing Atari's entire back-end systems, including its Microsoft Exchange email and its Oracle EBusiness Suite, which includes financials, order management, purchasing and projects and a royalty management system, enabling Atari's IT staff to focus solely on revenue-generating activities such as game development.
"Atari's innovative approach to having us host their entire infrastructure had an immediate impact on their bottom line," says John Engates, CTO of Rackspace. "Our managed hosting model allowed Atari to move all of its data and applications to new hardware without the steep, upfront capital expenditures typical of an infrastructure upgrade."
