November 15, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Registry operator VeriSign (verisign.com) announced on Wednesday that it plans to refocus its business on its two core activities, including managing DNS infrastructure and selling SSL security certificates for websites.
The company says that it will review three other business lines, including content delivery networks, mobile messaging and managed security services, and sell the rest, investing the proceeds in projects like developing its new line of identity protection services.
VeriSign's CEO Bill Roper says that 90 percent of the people who understand DNS work for VeriSign, undoubtedly making it the company's core competency and as the company re-evaluates its business, it makes sense to focus on areas where it has unique expertise.
Some of the lines VeriSign is planning to divest include billing, interactive applications and SS7 signaling for communications.
Last month, VeriSign was named a leader in Forrester Research's first Wave research report for managed security services.
