October 4, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Consultancy firm BroadGroup (broad-group.com) recently published a report that forcasts Internet data centers in Asia to expand by 45 percent in space and 80 percent in service value by 2010.
The report titled "Internet Data Centers Asia: Market Evolution, Opportunities and Challenges," is the first study of the market in a while that assesses the structure, process of change and future prospects of the evolving data center market. Across the 11 economies surveyed, the report suggests that data center markets are complex and multi-faceted businesses, that a multi-tiered system of operations exists at present and that the period through to 2010 will observe change involving consolidation, significant shifts in demand and the emergence of India as a leading player, second only to Japan in terms of space and service revenues.
Trends emerging in the sector include early internationalization of data center businesses and the sustained dominance of telco data centers in many markets. BroadGroup says the period of review will witness continued growth at different levels, with the most significant advances made in India, where substantial build programs have already started. The report adds that there is already evidence of investments by Indian players in Asian companies, which could contribute to the process of consolidation, the next step in the evolution of a data center marketplace.
The report concludes that while growth vectors are present across the region, data centers need to become aware of the global nature of the evolving marketplace and prepare to meet the implied challenges.
