September 28, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- While there were no great twists in the fate of the hosting business this week, there were several smaller trends that bear noting, in particular several acquisitions made by hosting providers and several announcements regarding the details of industry events.
Thursday saw reports on the details of two upcoming events and the conclusion of some business from a recent event.
Jupitermedia released its keynote and conference session schedule for the ISPCON Fall 2007 event, scheduled to take place from October 16 to 18 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California. The event will include keynote presentations from Cogent CEO Dave Schaeffer and The Planet's CEO Douglas J. Erwin. The conference will include more than 40 sessions across distinct tracks.
Consulting firm THINKstrategies said it would hold a webinar along with IT service firm Inforonics. The event was scheduled for September 28 at 12:00 p.m. The session, titled "SaaS: It's all about Service and Support," will feature THINKstrategies principal Jeff Kaplan and Inforonics director of sales Bob Murphy discussing ease of use SaaS applications and the diversity of the overall SaaS market. They will address challenges and identify best practices for tech support in the SaaS market.
And Verio reported the recipients of its viaVerio Partner Awards, acknowledging five service providers for their performance in different areas of the business. Winners were announced last week at the company's viaVerio Partner Summit in Las Vegas, an event the company it held to address the needs of its resellers in person.
Along with the news from events came notice from several Web hosting providers of notable acquisitions. On Monday Web hosting provider Globat announced that it had acquired virtually all the assets of Web hosting provider CompleteHostingSolutions. The deal is part of Globat's aggressive growth strategy, through which the company actively seeks out hosting companies to acquire, bringing new customers and talent on board.
On Wednesday, Web.com announced that its own shareholders, and those of website building tools provider Website Pros had approved the adoption of a merger agreement. The companies, which together have annual revenues of more than $117 million, and more than 234,000 paid subscribers, first announced that they would merge in July.
Along with the news of events and acquisitions, this week saw the reporting of survey results by Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting. The company said its survey reveals that environmental responsibility is a growing concern among hosting customers. According to the survey, 62 percent of respondents are concerned and either looking for a way to cut their company's impact on the environment or actively addressing that.
Probably this week's most relevant news to the coming weeks is the announcement of the schedule at ISPCON, which will take place in a couple of weeks.
