September 17, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IT infrastructure provider Terremark Worldwide (terremark.com) announced on Tuesday it has partnered with VMware (vmware.com) as part of the VMware vCloud Initiative, designed to help both parties bring utility and cloud computing services to the enterprise market.
Announced this week at VMworld 2008, VMware's newly launched Virtual Datacenter Operating System is an integral component of Terremark's Enterprise Cloud, which provides enterprises with a managed platform for mission-critical applications and infrastructure.
The new, virtual data center OS integrates hardware resources including servers, storage and network, into an aggregated, on-premise cloud, enabling data centers to become more elastic, self-managing and self-healing.
Terremark's Enterprise Cloud customers buy a dedicated resource pool of processing, memory, storage and networking, from which they can deploy servers on demand.
This provides customers more flexibility and agility over the traditional server-based model, enabling them to perform a precise and dynamic allocation of computing resources as needed.
"Enterprises are ready for cloud computing and VMware's ecosystem of world-class partners, such as Terremark, offers our customers innovative, complete cloud solutions," says Dan Chu, vice president of emerging products and markets for VMware. "Terremark's Enterprise Cloud provides the utility-based computing capabilities that companies need to meet their growing IT demands. Our work with Terremark is designed to help our mutual customers have the flexibility and scalability to manage their IT infrastructure most efficiently."
The Enterprise Cloud is powered by an enhanced version of Terremark's Infinistructure utility computing platform, which combines VMware's virtualization suite with Terremark's proprietary service management platform.
The solution uses Terremark's top-tier data centers as well as access to diverse network connectivity. As a partner in VMware's vCloud Terremark is able to use the advanced mobility, reliability and broad application support VMware Infrastructure uniquely offers enterprises.
VMware's vCloud (vmware.com/vcloud) is a common set of cloud computing platform services with broad application support for enterprises and cloud computing providers.
More than 100 major vendors are participating in the overall vCloud initiative, many of which are being announced this week at Vmworld 2008, including Hosting.com with its CloudNine platform, and Cisco with its Nexus 1000V solution.
