September 17, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IBM (ibm.com) and the Industrial Development Agency of Ireland (idaireland.com) announced on Wednesday they have invested EUR 30 million in a new data center at IBM's Technology Campus in Dublin.
This new facility, which is fully owned and operated by IBM, will provide a wide range of new and cost effective IT services for the Irish marketplace, while serving as a global hub for delivering IBM Software to clients in 84 countries worldwide.
Designed using IBM Research energy-efficient green strategies and technology innovations, the new facility optimize space, power cooling and resiliency while reducing costs and supporting business growth.
The company recently began the second phase of Project Big Green 2.0 in India, which will specifically be targeting large corporate customers in India and will be introducing new products and services, which focus on energy efficiency.
Clients using this facility will have access to Internet-scale computing capabilities, as well as the cost and environmental protection benefits of IBM's energy efficiency data center design and research.
This latest data center opening enables IBM to increase its ability to address surging demand from businesses and governments from around the world seeking to keep their operations safe from disruption.
IDA Ireland and IBM have a long-standing relationship in advancing the company in Ireland, and this latest facility opening marks the third significant investment this year alone, which includes the March opening of its first European cloud computing center in Dublin.
"We are hearing from our local clients that they have an increasing need to manage costs, and improve their operational efficiency while not compromising the security and integrity of their systems," says Anne Fitzsimons, country manager of integrated technology services at IBM Ireland. "This new data center expands our capability to deliver on these requirements. For example, reducing costs through providing infrastructure managed services or improving communications through the convergence of voice and data."
As part of its data center strategy new and upgraded products and services are being introduced across the IBM portfolio. This largest offering of new storage hardware, software and services focus to measure and manage energy consumption, manage security pain points and provide cost savings for data center optimization.
