September 16, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- SSL certificate provider VeriSign (verisign.com) and reputation management solution provider RatePoint (ratepoint.com) reported on Tuesday that they are collaboratively offering a solution that bundles the solutions of the two companies.
According to the press release, the announcement was made at the Shop.org conference, which, according to its website, is taking place in Las Vegas this week, along with the Tier 1 Hosting Transformation Summit (hostingtransformation.com) and VMworld (vmworld.com).
RatePoint's offering is a logical compliment to VeriSign's SSL certificates. Both solutions operate on similar philosophies of validating e-commerce sites - SSL certificates providing a third-party verification of identity, and RatePoint a vehicle for objective third-party evaluation of a company's services.
"VeriSign secures more than 1 million web servers worldwide with SSL encryption and rigorous authentication," says the announcement, "while RatePoint allows customers to rate their overall satisfaction with an online business and its offerings."
And, of course, the companies have a bit of shared history. Neal Creighton founded RatePoint after he sold the GeoTrust SSL business to VeriSign in 2006.
The VeriSign press release doesn't include much information about the nature of the partnership, though VeriSign is listed among the "strategic partners" on the RatePoint website, and the RatePoint press release says "VeriSign will integrate RatePoint's online reputation management and customer feedback platform as a value-added offering for customers to purchase as part of VeriSign's retail SSL certificate," which would seem to mean that VeriSign is reselling the RatePoint solution.
Neither release had any information about how the bundled offering will be priced, but that information may be forthcoming from VeriSign. The direct-from-RatePoint price for the solution starts at $17.95 per month.
"Consumer-generated Web content is proliferating, making online reviews a common first stop for consumers considering a purchase," says Michael Lin, vice president of SSL product management at VeriSign, quoted in the press release. "By offering RatePoint's acclaimed reputation management platform alongside VeriSign SSL Certificates, we are able to bridge the gap between consumers and the businesses that serve them. With this platform, we are providing a fair, balanced and straightforward way for online businesses to connect with customers, to resolve potential disputes and to share reviews."
