Go Daddy Sponsors College Football

September 12, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Go Daddy (godaddy.com) announced on Wednesday that it has signed a deal to sponsor ESPN TV's coverage of Saturday night college football games, starting September 22.

Go Daddy, which gained a great deal of notoriety from its Super Bowl advertising efforts, will be the official presenting sponsor of the games, a deal that includes on-air announcements, logo placements and commercials on ESPN and its affiliates, including ABC TV.

The sponsorship, says Go Daddy, follows a successful turn as the broadcast sponsor for the Indianapolis 500 race, along with its sponsorship of driver Danica Patrick.

Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons said in a blog post that the company is still considering whether it will advertise in this year's Super Bowl, but felt the move to college football, and to cable, would allow it a little more freedom with its famously racy content.

"This is an audience we really like. The vast majority are Internet users, and the best part of it is these viewers are absolutely passionate," says Parsons. "Our research shows college football fans rank third for fan intensity behind the NFL and NASCAR."

The sponsorship also provides Go Daddy with airtime for commercials during the NASCAR Nextel Cup, as well as several college bowl games, including the Capital One, Liberty and Alamo Bowl games.

ESPN and ABC TV have reportedly approved a first commercial titled "I Own You" as part of the sponsorship. The commercial can be viewed on the company's website.

In the same blog post in which he discussed his Super Bowl plans, Parsons said the company is planning to announce a sponsorship deal with an "outspoken NFL football player."

Parsons declined to identify the player, but according to this Capital Times article, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson was spotted shooting a commercial for Go Daddy at a Wisconsin high school on Tuesday.
