September 6, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Microsoft (microsoft.com) announced last week on its Windows Division Server blog (blogs.technet.com/windowsserver) that it has postponed the release to manufacturing date for Windows Server 2008 to the first quarter of 2008.
The product was originally slated to RTM by the end of 2007, but the company writes in its blog that while it is "happy with the feedback" and the "overall quality of the latest product builds", it would prefer to take a "little more time to meet the high quality bar" that its customers and partners have come to expect.
The Beta 3 release has already had over 300,000 downloads, while the number of servers deployed in real production environments at Microsoft's Technology Adoption Program and Rapid Deployment Program customers has significantly increased. The launch event for Windows Server 2008 is still scheduled for February 27, 2008 in Los Angeles, California, which will feature Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008, says the company.
