midPhase Moves Servers to SoftLayer

By Justin Lee, theWHIR.com

September 4, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Shared hosting provider midPhase (midphase.com) announcing on Thursday it has begun a significant and complete migration to web hosting SoftLayer (softlayer.com) facility.

The migration will enable midPhase to provide existing and new customers with nearly 100 percent uptime service, as well as the ability to focus on developing new products and technologies.

"Most shared hosting companies like ours are kept up at night worrying about uptime issues and insuring that our customer's websites are always online," says Marc Bollinger, general manager of midPhase. "The migration to SoftLayer completely eliminates this worry and will allow us to develop innovative new products for the marketplace. We're leaving the hosting to the most powerful professionals on the planet. On top of it we're keeping the price to the customers exactly the same."

In December 2007, UK web hosting provider UK-2 Group acquired midPhase Services' shared and virtual private server businesses.

At the time of the acquisition, UK-2 Group said it did not plan to migrate midPhase's servers, and instead chose to colocate the existing servers with Chicago-based web hosting provider SingleHop (singlehop.com).

However, the company relaunched in July with a new vision, website and solution that represents the mandate that "technological expertise should not be a barrier to having an online presence midPhase provides the tools and solutions to provide everyone with a professional website."

"After nine months of restructuring midPhase and its brands," says Nick Nelson, director of sales and marketing for midPhase, "the final step was to establish a focus on what we do best, selling hosting as such we decided to outsource our data center and network operations exclusively to SoftLayer in a multi-million, multi-year contract, instead of spending those millions on building out a local Chicago data center. SoftLayer has built out an amazing network and three fully redundant data centers. It would've taken us years to do the same, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel."

The migration shows midPhase's direction to provide new and "innovative products and unparalleled customer service," says the company, adding that it will be announcing several new products in the coming months.

For the migration, midPhase specified uniquely configured servers with SoftLayer which feature dual quad core servers running at 2.60 GHz, 12GB of RAM, multiple RAID-protected drives, nightly backups, seven levels of redundancy, reactive monitoring, and extensive DDos protection.
