Global Crossing Adds Managed Services

By Justin Lee, theWHIR.com

September 3, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Global IP solutions provider Global Crossing (globalcrossing.com) announced on Wednesday it has expanded the range of services offered in its London, UK data center at Docklands by offering hosting managed services.

The new services will include monitoring, backup, security, server management and storage solutions, specifically Hitachi Data Systems data storage capabilities.

Global Crossing also announced plans to expand its London facility and to open a new data center in Amsterdam.

In May, Global Crossing announced plans to open a data center in London, UK, as well as a new facility in Miami, Florida.

The company's Docklands data center is almost at capacity with 89 percent of the available space sold. Global Crossing has decided to accommodate this new demand by implementing Phase II of that build-out and has already pre-sold 10 percent of the additional racks available to potential customers.

The new Amsterdam facility, which will be available in early 2009, is part of the company's overall plans to continue the modular development of its hosting solutions business in Europe.

"Our customers include more than 130 UK government departments and agencies, as well as the transportation and commercial segments," says Anthony Christie, managing director of EMEA at Global Crossing. "As the largest IT and data market in Europe, meeting the needs of the UK market gives us unprecedented opportunities. But we also plan to explore other opportunities throughout Europe so we can extend our already extensive network footprint."

The expanded capabilities now offered at the London data center include resilient storage infrastructure solutions supported by Hitachi Data Systems hardware and software, which enables Global Crossing to provide customers with cost-effective data storage solutions.

Information has never been more critical to the survival of a business. The explosive growth of data-intensive applications and an increasing reliance on information as a competitive differentiator have made data storage a central component of corporate strategies.

These enhanced capabilities can help Global Crossing address the concerns of IT organizations, including availability and speed of access to data and the ability to securely share data inside and outside of the enterprise.

Global Crossing's data center footprint continues to expand, spanning to 60 major cities around the world. The company's facilities enable customers to seamlessly link sites to almost any location around the world within the reach and capacity of "one of the world's most extensive global IP networks."

Global Crossing's hosting solutions provide customers housing, equipment, storage, backup and monitoring, as well as managed services.
