Dotster Readies For .MOBI Registration

August 30, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider and domain registrar Dotster (dotster.com) announced on Tuesday it has expanded its Custom Site Web site design service to include .mobi Web sites. The move is intended to prepare for the preliminary availability of .mobi domain extensions in September.

Web sites hosted on .mobi domains are subject to unique design restrictions governed by the organization that issues the domains because they must be able to be viewed on cell phones and other mobile devices. The restrictions aid navigation and loading times, as visitors to .mobi sites have smaller screens and potentially less available bandwidth to download large graphic files.

"Teens are always early adopters of new technology, and they've been mobile gaming for years, while most people use their mobile devices for email only," says Clint Page, CEO of Dotster. "We're now seeing a flood of new phones and mobile phone applications that are going to push everyone to broader Internet use."

Dotster has also staffed its custom site design team with .mobi site experts, who are available to work one-on-one with clients to build mobile Web sites. The company says it is pricing .mobi site design at $99 per page to encourage wider adoption of the domain extension.
