August 18, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Enterprise software provider Oracle (oracle.com) has announced its PeopleSoft Enterprise Student Administration Integration Pack is now available to help colleges and universities better integrate and manage their administrative and educational systems.

According to Oracle's announcement Monday, SAIP is the first product in the company's Academic Enterprise Solutions suite and it is designed to integrate back-office and learning management systems at educational institutions. SAIP delivers academic data in a flexible, Web services-based interface, offering the "highly-accessible, user-friendly online experience today's Web-savvy students expect," according to a statement from Oracle.

California State University (calstate.edu) chief information officer and assistant vice chancellor David J. Ernst said SAIP has helped bridge the gap between the administration and the lecture hall. "In an institution as large and diverse as the California State University system, we depend on our technology partners to look for ways to improve the integration of our administrative and academic solutions," he said in a statement. "This new integration pack for Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise student system promises to make a huge difference in the way our faculty, students and administrators access information and manage teaching and learning on our 23 campuses."

SAIP forgoes many of the pitfalls of traditional learning management systems, according to Oracle. Often, online teaching environments are set up by instructors to individually manage their courses and exchange information with students in a web of separate and confusing sites and applications. SAIP lets an administrator create a course then the interface sends the information to the learning management system, automatically creating a corresponding course site or virtual learning space. As students enroll in the course through PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions, enrollment information is sent to the learning management system and they receive all appropriate access privileges.

In addition, Oracle's holistic approach to educational institution networking eliminates the need for re-entering data or re-synchronizing the two systems with every update, which is particularly helpful for final grade reporting that previously required administrators to re-key grades into the student information system.

Oracle hopes to expand its Academic Enterprise Solutions suite to include student systems, learning management, collaboration and communication, analytics, identity management, library systems, and parking and housing systems.

The educational institution market often has high network demands because of the diverse services needed. Companies that have recently brought their services to the ivory tower include email services provider AtMail (atmail.com) that supplies email services to private colleges Princeton and Duke, and security provider Mi5 Networks (mi5networks.com) that keeps Moravian College's campus free of malware and botnets.
