August 15, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed, dedicated server provider HostMySite (hostmysite.com) is now offering Hyper-V hosting as either a standard or customized solution based on the the latest in virtualization offering from Microsoft (microsoft.com).

According to the announcement Friday by Microsoft Gold Certified Partner HostMySite, Hyper-V is a key feature of Windows Server 2008 providing hypervisor-based virtualization giving customers a fast and scalable virtualization solution to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single physical machine.

"By taking advantage of Hyper-V with Windows 2008, our clients have the ability to take all of their solutions, such as their production and development environments, and simultaneously run them together in a completely isolated hypervisor-based virtual environment," HostMySite virtualization solution architect Matt Ferrari said in a statement.

According to HostMySite, customers are given a single, hardware server where they are able to create multiple virtual machines using Hyper-V. Each virtual machine acts as a standalone server running its own operating system that can be 32-bit or 64-bit Windows or Linux and can be configured as application servers, database servers running Microsoft SQL 2008 or MySQL, mail servers, or test environments, according to the company.

"This technology has brought the reliability of a robust physical environment and combined it with the cost savings of a virtual environment," Ferrari said. "Additionally, Hyper-V gives tremendous flexibility and ease of management to developers and technology managers who need to deploy virtual environments quickly."

HostMySite is joining other hosting providers such as Layered Tech (layeredtech.com) and PacHosting (pachosting.com) as early adopters of Microsoft's Hyper-V.

In June, Newark, Delaware-based HostMySite was acquired by US private equity firm Wachovia Capital Partners (wachoviacapitalpartners.com), a division of the Wachovia Corporation bank.
