Announced Thursday by Chicago-based SingleHop, the hardware upgrades will allow SingleHop's client servers to run at levels above industry standards, according to the company.
"Roughly 40 percent of the 1,000-plus servers we have online right now have less than 2GB of RAM," SingleHop president and chief executive officer Zak Boca said in a statement. "In today's computing environment, websites simply need more resources to function better and load faster."
Earlier in the week, SingleHop introduced its new, browser-based "webtop" dedicated server interface to add a Web 2.0 look and feel to dedicated server management. Also, in June, SingleHop offered a lifetime price cap to protect clients switching to its services in the month of June from the rising price of managed hosting as hosts increasingly raise prices because of rising energy costs.
"Because our customers tend to stay with us for a long time we want to insure that they continually receive access to the best hardware and software options available. That's why we have decided that we will offer a free upgrade to 2GB of RAM to every single SingleHop customer, regardless of how much they spend," Boca said.
Current SingleHop customers wanting to take part in the RAM upgrade offer need to schedule the upgrade by logging into their control panel then clicking on the ' Free RAM Upgrade' icon.
