July 14, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Telecommunications and Internet service provider Pipex Network Services (pipex.com) announced on Friday it has been selected by UK-based charity Comic Relief (comicrelief.com) to provide connectivity, hosting and management for the infrastructure supporting its online presence and digital donations for Sport Relief 2006.
Pipex will provide a secure, high capacity network interface and managed hosting solutions to enable the charity's infrastructure to process millions of pounds-worth of donations via the Web site and interactive TV. Transaction volumes are expected to peak at £0.54 million during the busiest fifteen minutes of the live BBC ONE programme on July 15.
Pipex will host and manage the site, while deploying a range of security and continuity measures such as housing the infrastructure within two data centers and working with Cisco Systems, Oracle and Sun Microsystems to optimize the GRID infrastructure and to ensure Comic Relief can receive donations around the clock.
"As the UK's largest hosting company, we are ideally positioned to manage the huge expected volumes of traffic to the Sport Relief site and our managed solution will efficiently deal with the high peaks of activity around the event," says Maria Cappella, managing director at Pipex Network Services. "We are very much looking forward to a successful Sport Relief 2006 and hope we can help Comic Relief raise even more money this year."
