JC, IBM Integrate 'Green' Software

By Justin Lee, theWHIR.com

July 11, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Johnson Controls (johnsoncontrols.com) announced on Friday it plans to integrate IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management software (ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/monitor-green-energy) to enable data centers to be more energy efficient and sustainable.

Level 1 PCI DSS Certified Service Provider! DataPipe delivers the best network & support; top tier data centers; New York metro, Silicon Valley, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.

The offering combines the advanced energy monitoring and control capabilities of Johnson Controls Metasys building management system with data center energy management capabilities provided by IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management software.

Both systems provide real-time monitoring and control to individual aspects of the infrastructure - Metasys building management system for building and system infrastructure, while IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management software for a facility's IT infrastructure.

Integrating these two systems will provide a complete solution that addresses both their systems and IT energy efficiency needs, helping data center customers to maximize energy efficiency, lower power and cooling costs, and make real-time power decisions.

The Metasys building management system integrates building systems and equipment to provide centralized monitoring and control and high automation. Metasys software organizes and interprets events, audits and other critical data. By allowing users to monitor and take control from any Web-enabled device, the software helps engineer buildings that are more comfortable, safe and sustainable.

The combination of the systems is designed to enhance an enterprisewide view of energy consumption, ranging from data centers to security systems, air conditioning and lighting. This information will help customers to analyze events and alerts and then respond by reducing energy consumption and offering quality delivery of IT services.

"As far as technology and solutions are concerned, this combined offering will provide customers with one comprehensive solution to help them improve energy efficiency," says David Love, director of private sector solutions for Johnson Controls. "By combining IBM's software innovation with Johnson Controls' facility management expertise, customers around the globe will have efficient and manageable data centers. We will have truly set the standard."

Metasys software offers features that lower energy usage and lower utility bills. The latest Metasys software features takes this one step further by expanding support for Demand Limiting, which predicts potential energy peaks, and Load Rolling, which offers a control strategy that reduces total energy usage.

By combining Metasys with IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management software, they will consolidate views of energy management information and provide optimization across data centers and building infrastructures.
