BroadGroup Holds Asia Facility Event

By Anastasia Tubanos, theWHIR.com

July 3, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IT consultancy firm BroadGroup Consulting (broad-group.com) announced on Thursday it is holding its second regional Data Centre Asia 2008 Conference (datacentres.com/dca) in Singapore.

Why use a vendor when you can choose a partner? DataPipe delivers highly customized solutions to meet your unique IT needs. World-class data centers in the U.S., London & China. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.

Taking place from November 12 to 13 at the Pan-Pacific Hotel, the firm says this conference will place a particular effort on discussing issues surrounding power and cooling, which are presenting the most significant challenges for data center operators in Asia, especially as demand grows and companies, from within and abroad, engage in Asian markets.

The event will also address global pressures to reduce carbon emissions, curtail energy requirements, introduce green technologies and comply with a raft of legislative and regulatory requirements.

The Asian IT market is an area that has been seeing a lot of progress in the past year, particularly in the data center market, with recent reports citing India as experiencing substantial growth, anticipated to reach more than $1.5 billion in value by 2010.

While the demand is growing, BroadGroup says the development of "green" data centers is lagging in some Asian markets, leaving challenges for operators, particularly those relating to infrastructure, the quality of power and land availability.

However, this is expected to change in the next year as the environmental impact of data centers becomes clearer, and users are hit by a combination of regulatory, customer and investor pressure, says the consultancy firm.

Perhaps not surprisingly, especially considering the technology giant has rather prominently been pushing its $1 billion green initiative "Project Big Green" since May 2007, IBM has signed on as a platinum sponsor for the event. The conference is also being supported by the Economic Development Board and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

"Although taking place at a time of growth, there is increasing concern about power and cooling which has reached critical levels, and the need to introduce green technologies," says Philip Low, managing director of BroadGroup. "The sheer range of challenges and critical factors impacting future expansion presents the regional forum with much to consider and discuss. Bringing together Asian providers and users will facilitate a compelling opportunity for everyone in this growing sector."

BroadGroup says DCA08 is a recognized regional event for data centers and is part of a regional program established by the firm in Europe and Latin America.
