July 2, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Telecom giant Telstra (telstra.com.au) has announced that it has won a $72 million five-year managed network services contract with Medibank Private (medibank.com.au), Australia's largest private health insurer.
Telstra plans to implement their solution across the entire enterprise, unifying communications by combining voice and data across the same network. Telstra announced in a press Tuesday the five-year deal that they said will strengthen their relationship with Medibank Private, involving a 'winback' of voice, mobile and contact centre business.
Telstra expects that their communication networks will improve customer service and internal communications. Convergence of voice and contact center technology, Telstra said, will improve response times to customer calls. They also hope faster network speed and increased mobile coverage will increase workplace productivity and the effectiveness of Medibank Private's mobile workforce.
"The upgrades in speed and reliability which will be delivered through Telstra's Next Generation networks, means our retail arm will be able to serve our members better," Medibank Private Managing Director George Savvides said in the release.
Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo said that Medibank Private has made a profound shift by moving from multiple providers to Telstra as their one supplier. "Securing this business is an important win for Telstra," Trujillo said in the release. "This demonstrates the superiority of Telstra's mobile, IP, unified communications and contact center solution offerings."
A multi-billion dollar corporation, Telstra provides IT and hosting services alongside phone and television services. The Brisbane Times reported this week that subsidiary BigPond, the country's largest phone company, arranged a deal with Yahoo!7 (au.yahoo.com) to stream the 2008 Olympic Games on mobile phones in Australia.
