June 25, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Hosting provider PEER 1 Network Enterprises (peer1.com) said this week that it had completed a "comprehensive, standardized network upgrade."

The company announced on Wednesday that it had upgraded its network to 10GB/OC192 architecture, which it says will strengthen its platform for supporting online business, and will help support new technology development.
PEER 1 hosts an interactive network map and downloadable spec sheet on its website.
According to PEER 1, the upgraded network architecture will provide the company with a higher throughput and per-second capability to support high-volume applications like voice over IP and online gaming. It will also enable PEER 1 to provide high-quality bandwidth for customers with rich media or streaming applications.
Among the high-volume applications PEER 1 customers might be running are the software-as-a-service style hosted applications that many of the larger facilities-based hosts are courting as customers these days. PEER 1 is one of the hosts actively pursuing SaaS-model software vendors as customers.
On Tuesday of this week, the company held a webinar entitled "The Seven Deadly Mistakes of ISV SaaS Offerings," which set out to position the company as a valuable resource for ISVs looking to transition their services to a SaaS model. Presumably, this would also make PEER 1 a consideration as a hosting partner.
PEER 1 says its long-term strategy involves partnering with experts in specific technologies, a model that meshes well with the opportunities provided by its high-capacity network for testing new technologies, and ultimately integrating those technologies into PEER 1's offering.
"PEER 1's strategic development for these new technologies enables us to continue delivering world-class service for our customers now and in the future," says CEO Fabio Banducci, quoted in the press release. "We are committed to helping businesses realize the growing possibilities of the Internet. With the power and breadth of the PEER 1 network, we are in a unique position to promote and support more powerful solutions to benefit both our customers and the industry in general."
