June 13, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web and application hosting provider NaviSite (navisite.com) said Friday that it has added a group of new customers to the Sun Solaris On Demand Program, through which the company offers independent software venders the means to move their applications to a software-as-a-service platform built on Sun Solaris technology.
Level 1 PCI DSS Certified Service Provider! DataPipe delivers the best network & support; top tier data centers; New York metro, Silicon Valley, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.
The new customers are North Plains, a provider of video and digital Asset management solutions, and MIO.TV, which operates a web-based platform for interactive media communications and entertainment.
According to NaviSite, the new customers demonstrate the "growing need for SaaS offerings within NaviSite's managed services environment. The Solaris On Demand program also offers ISVs help with delivering their applications on-demand. According to NaviSite, the platform often solves issues associated with availability, security, scalability and cost.
Along with SaaS enablement, NaviSite says it is providing North Plains with security management, server management, web hosting and storage management. The company is also providing MIO.TV with a hosted solution including data backup, database management, network management and load balancing.
NaviSite expanded its relationship with Sun Microsystems, and began offering its Solaris On Demand program early in May of this year.
The company was an early mover in the SaaS business as it relates to web hosting. In 2006 the company began courting software developers with its "SaaS Sandbox" service, an architecture designed around supporting hosted applications in development.
