June 10, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Cloud storage platform provider Nirvanix (nirvanix.com) announced on Tuesday it is entering the enterprise cloud storage market with the commercial release of its Storage Delivery Network for large businesses.
Nivanix describes its SDN as a global cluster of storage nodes that stores multiple file copies and delivers and processes storage requests in the best network location, providing the best user experience.
The company says this new offering will provide enterprises with "an unmatched archival and backup storage solution that simplifies management and reduces the costs typically associated with storage server management in a set of pre-packaged solutions."
A few other companies have released their own hosting cloud solutions in recent months, though not necessarily on the enterprise level. In March, Backup and storage company Tilana released its storage cloud APIs and in May Mosso launched its online storage offering, CloudFS.
Nirvanix says its new enterprise offering provides companies with more than 5TB of data in a highly-scalable storage and delivery platform that can satisfy many different business-critical needs.
Additional advantages over online storage offerings from "other" vendors, says Nirvanix, include a maximum file size of 256 GB, automated file replication for enterprise-class availability, enterprise-grade ingestion tools including virtual CIFS/NFS drive mounts and cross-connect services, clustered geo-node architecture for improved download performance and integrated media processing functionality for image resizing and rotating, and audio and video transcoding, scaling and frame extraction.
"The ability to safely and efficiently store and archive large data sets without the time, complexity and costs of managing server hardware is an ideal situation for companies of any and all sizes," says Patrick Harr, CEO of Nirvanix. "But, until now, the ability to deliver that solution to the largest customers remained elusive as many attempts at providing cloud storage to enterprises lacked the necessary services required in this unique market. With the peace of mind enabled by Nirvanix's security and guaranteed reliability/availability, along with the industry's only 100 percent SLA, enterprises can now store their archival data in the cloud without worry of outages or downtime."
Over the last few months Nirvanix has been making some fairly major corporate announcements, indicative of the company's apparent growth in the cloud storage space. In April, Nirvanix appointed a new chief technology officer and VP of engineering. Then a couple of weeks later, the company announced it had received funding from German venture capital firm European Founders Fund to support its European expansion.
