June 6, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- With the hotly anticipated release of version two of the iPhone next week at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2008, it seems as though Open-Xchange's (open-xchange.com) latest announcement couldn't have been timed better.
The open source collaboration software provider reported on Friday it has released a new tool to enable iPhone users to have access to Open-Xchange's business-class email, calendaring and collaboration solutions.
Open-Xchange says the new tool features a browser-based iPhone user interface and is available immediately to all users of Open-Xchange who have an iPhone.
"This gives users and developers on Mac OS X and iPhone access to an independent and freely available collaboration solution," says Juergen Geck, CTO of Open-Xchange. "The open source version features a preview of the upcoming release of Open-Xchange Server, including special capabilities for the iPhone."
Although Apple is a brand that has seemingly permeated many aspects of the technology industry, it's one we haven't heard very much about within web hosting. However, Open-Xchange says this new software download is only its first step towards offering support for the Apple platform and the company will soon announce integration tools for Apple Mac OS X iSync.
The company says this will be available for free to all who choose to run their own copy of Open-Xchange on their premises and will also become available to the customers of Open-Xchange partners that sell hosted collaboration services.
Open-Xchange has been involved in a few new partnerships over the past month. On Wednesday, Japanese web hosting provider JMF announced it is offering Tsukaeru-Xchange, a hosted email and collaboration service based on Saloob's SaaS platform and Open-Xchange Hosting Edition.
