IceWEB to Build $16.5m Virginia Facility

By Anastasia Tubanos, theWHIR.com

June 6, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IceWEB (iceweb.com), a company that focuses on storage and online applications solutions, announced on Thursday it has signed a teaming agreement with Virginia-based IT and engineering firm Premier Technical Services (pts-usa.com) to build a $16.5 million "green" data center and office complex in Page County, Virginia.

Why use a vendor when you can choose a partner? DataPipe delivers highly customized solutions to meet your unique IT needs. World-class data centers in the U.S., London & China. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.

IceWEB says it manufactures and markets storage solutions and online application services and is a "leading source for best-of-class security products, services and solutions offered in partnership with a wide range of global technology leaders."

Under the deal, IceWEB will work alongside Premier Technical Services as a subcontractor on the team for the development and implementation of a new LEED-certified data center. Premier will serve as prime contractor on the project.

Specifically, IceWEB will assist Premier and other team members, which have remained undisclosed, with the design, development and deployment strategy for integrating power protection, storage and server architecture, security and networking solutions in the new data center, says the company.

"IceWEB is ideally suited to provide Premier with a full range of next generation IT infrastructure solutions necessary for managing, accelerating and securing applications within its new data center and to the rest of its enterprise, in addition to contributing our proven technological expertise and services to ensure smooth, cost efficient implementation," says Tim McNamee, VP of solutions and storage sales at IceWEB. "We are very proud that our company has been named to the team of subcontractors on this significant project, and look forward to working closely with Premier to optimize the development and deployment process."

IceWEB says the data center project is expected to be completed in nine months.

According to reports by the Washington Business Journal, this facility is part of a $75 million planned data center and office complex in development by Premier. There is a second $58.5 million phase of the project that is expected to be completed in 2010.

Implementing a "green" approach to data center services, like data capture and storage, is a trend that has been gaining noticeable momentum within the industry as companies, particularly in the IT business, strive to make their business operations more environmentally friendly.

Last week, Yahoo! announced it will establish a corporate data center in one of DRT's turnkey facilities, and the two organizations will work to achieve LEED Gold certification for the facility as a "green" data center.
