June 3, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed hosting provider Verio (verio.com) announced Tuesday it has launched new virtual private server hosting plans targeting resellers and small-to-medium sized businesses that have outgrown their current shared hosting solutions.
Verio says its new VPS Starter Plans are ideal for businesses that require more dedicated space and enhanced scalability than standard entry-level shared hosting plans can provide.
The new plans are available on both Linux and FreeBSD platforms and include multiple domain names and increased disk space, memory and process limits to drive high-capacity functionality for growing businesses, says the company.
Although Verio has had FreeBSD and Linux-based VPS offerings since 2006 and 2007 respectively, the company says these new VPS Starter Packs are essentially new packaged offerings of the existing services, but with the aim of creating an easy way for businesses to transition to VPS at a low cost entry point.
"Verio continuously looks for ways to improve our product offerings, and these enhancements are just the latest of our regular efforts to provide improved services to our partners and our customers," says Steve Renda, VP of sales and marketing at Verio. "We have noticed that increasingly, small businesses are growing at a rate where they cannot rely on shared servers to get the dedicated resources and space they need. Now, small businesses can gain the benefits of dedicated hosting - such as reliability and scalability - without the associated costs."
Verio says one of the biggest advantages is that companies will be able to benefit from the "dedicated-like performance" of Verio's VPS solutions, due to something the company calls Verio's FairShare technology, a "unique technology that offers individual, fully-isolated space on Verio servers."
Verio also seems to tout its experience and reliability with this kind of offering due its understanding of VPS technology, something "that was pioneered by Verio over 10 years ago, based on the concept of a 'virtual machine'," says the company.
Verio says its Linux and FreeBSD VPSs are available immediately and pricing begins at $59.95 for 10GB disk space.
In an effort to cater to a similar base of SMBs that have outgrown their shared servers but may not be able to afford a dedicated server package, web hosting provider ActiveHost announced on Monday it has launched new Windows VPS packages based on Parallels' automation and virtualization software.
