May 30, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center operator 365 Main (365main.com) announced on Wednesday that it has become the first data center operator to commit to full compliance with the building certification system put forth by the US Green Building Council (usgbc.org), a non-profit organization of leaders from every sector of the building industry.

365 Main joined The Green Grid on April 10 and says that due to the rise in power consumption in the US, it is taking steps to address energy concerns by using recycled and regionally sourced construction materials, computer room air handlers that consume 30 percent less energy, make up air handler units with outside air economizers that use 100 percent outside air on days when the temperature is cool enough to achieve data center cooling requirements and other improvements including energy-efficient lighting, lighting controls, water-efficient landscaping and alternative transportation modifications.

"As a fast-growing leader in its industry, we applaud the extraordinary commitment 365 Main is making to the green movement," says Richard Fredrizzi, CEO of USGBC. "This level of socially responsible corporate behavior enables a healthy and prosperous environment that improves quality of life and we hope one day it will become the norm rather than the exception."

365 Main also announced it is developing a new data center in Newark, California, the first LEED-certified data center in the country in which customers can lease customizable private rooms from 5,000 to 30,000 square feet. Design and construction has already begun and will open in Q4 2007.

365Main also recently announced that AboveNet is expanding its connectivity presence to 365 Main's portfolio of data centers, which includes facilities in San Francisco, El Segundo and Oakland, California, Chantilly, Virginia, and Chandler, Arizona.
