May 22, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Search engine giant Google (google.com) announced on Tuesday it will revamped its iGoogle interface next month and enable users to advertise on personalized home page service.
The ads will be offered as an option for iGoogle's "canvas view," which enables users to expand iGoogle applications to cover the entire browser screen, said Google on Tuesday via its iGoogle developer blog.
Dan Holevoet of Google's developer programs group writes on the blog: "Those of you with existing applications should add a canvas view to take advantage of more screen real estate. And using canvas view, you can also monetize with ads."
In April, Google launched a "sandbox" to enable developers test the canvas view along with the new iGoogle interface that includes a left-hand navigation panel with a user's list of web applications.
Later this summer, Holevoet said that Google will add the OpenSocial API to iGoogle, which is a collaborative effort including several Google competitors that enable developers to create web applications that are compatible on any OpenSocial-enabled site. The summer will also bring iGoogle updates and notifications feature.
In other Google ad-related news, the past month has seen a considerable amount of discussion on hosting forums surrounding Google's AdSense and AdWords and the illegitimate generation of traffic. Web hosts continue to contemplate on how they should approach this controversial matter, as well as the effective use of the search engine's services to generate traffic and revenue.
Google ran a soft launch in March of Google Ad Manager, a tool that enables publishers to manage ad placement on their websites. Meanwhile, in April, rival search engine Yahoo was considering on extending its partnership with Google after a successful week of testing out Google's ad engine.
