May 15, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Telecommunications provider Level 3 Communications' (level3.com) Content Markets Group announced on Tuesday that it is launching caching and downloading services as a part of its content delivery platform.

Level 3 says it has invested to enhance its content delivery architecture since acquiring key intellectual property and content delivery assets earlier this year. The new architecture enables customers to tap into large-scale server clusters deployed to leverage the scale and reach of the Level 3 backbone, one of the largest in the United States and in Europe, says the company.

Also, the company's caching and downloading services provides customers with greater flexibility in architecting content delivery solutions and gives them control over how their content is distributed, says Level 3.

"The addition of caching and downloading services to Level 3's comprehensive content delivery platform enhances our ability to address the growing demand from customers who need to deliver high-quality video and digital media to Internet end users," says Brady Rafuse, president of Level 3's Content Markets Group. "Level 3 now offers the key elements that customers need to deliver content from creation to consumption and we believe our customers will benefit from the increased performance and improved economics that a single, trusted content delivery platform can provide."

Level 3 was recently selected by Linden Lab, the creators of 3D virtual world Second Life, to provide high speed Internet access and wavelengths via two 10 gigabits per second ports, connecting Second Life's data centers in San Francisco, California and Dallas, Texas.
