May 12, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Canadian Web hosting provider Netfirms (netfirms.com) has reportedly refused to shut down a site for the extreme group Real IRA, despite mounting pressure from the US government and victims' families, according to a report by the Toronto Sun.
Families of those killed in the 1998 Omagh bombing by Real IRA, amid the four-decade conflict over Northern Ireland, lobbied a US diplomat yesterday in attempts to get Netfirms to close a Web site connected to the bombers.
"We have already corresponded with the families directly and told them we couldn't because we are bound by the terms of our contract," Chris Hebert of Netfirms told the Toronto Sun. "We need a court order to shut down the site. If the RCMP shows up with a court order we would be happy to close it."
The Toronto-based Netfirms offers Web hosting, e-commerce, email and e-marketing services to small and medium-sized companies.
