May 9, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Crucial Paradigm (crucialp.com) reported on Wednesday that it is introducing a set of virtual private server hosting plans based on the Windows Server 2008 operating systems.

The company says it is "one of the first hosting providers to adopt the new platform." Though several of Microsoft's hosting partners announced support for Server 2008 hosting in conjunction with the software's launch in February, the operating system is still in the relatively early stages of its adoption as a hosting platform and has seen few large-scale hosting implementations outside of Microsoft itself.
However, Microsoft has been carefully promoting the fact that Server 2008 was designed specifically with hosting implementations in mind, a process that included the development of the Server Core SKU, a scaled-down operating system designed for implementation on web servers.
Crucial Paradigm's offering will include two Windows 2008 VPS plans, including an $80 per month offering of 35GB storage, 300GB transfer and 1GB of server RAM, along with a choice between the Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter versions of Windows Server 2008.
The company's website says it offers "true" VPS offerings, which enable customers "full control over what you install on the VDS just as though it were a full dedicated server." It doesn't describe the implied alternative, presumably a crippled version of what we typically imagine to be VPS, with less control over the virtual environment.
Crucial Paradigm's announcement doesn't say whether its new VPS offer uses Server 2008's built-in virtualization features or with a third-party virtualization solution such as those offered by Parallels or VMware.
"With this new line of plans, businesses or individuals wishing to start using Windows Server 2008 can take advantage of our easy-to-use, robust Virtual Private Server solutions that avoid the costs and limitations of a dedicated server," says Aaron Weller, director of Crucial Paradigm. "Virtual Private Servers allow our customers to completely configure and control their entire hosting environment, without being limited by container-based technology that prevents customization. Windows Server 2008 takes our Virtual Private Servers to the next level, and we are excited to introduce it to our customers."
Crucial Paradigm has set up a landing page specifically for the new product offering.
