EU Web Site Experiences Downtime
May 8, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The official .eu domain registrar EURid (eurid.eu) said on Monday that it has experienced more than 36 hours of downtime since Saturday morning, but has since stabilized the situation.
The EURid site started having problems soon after midnight on Saturday. According to domain statistics provider Ipwalk, the Web site was down for more than 14 hours on Saturday and more than 17 hours on Sunday. On Monday, the EURid Web site experienced 5 hours 21 minutes of downtime before stabilizing at 10:01 a.m. local time.
"It was just the front-end Web site having problems," says Linda Van Brussel, business development manager at EURid. "All other systems, all transactions, have been working fine the whole time. Registrars have not been affected."
Van Brussel also says that the company is planning to transfer the EURid Web site, which is currently hosted in Italy, to Belgium where the company is located, in an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future.
EURid is still investigating the cause of the downtime.
