Opening next month, the Dubai office will provide a local contact in the same regional time zone for Verizon Business' multinational customers with operations in the Middle East, as well as a base for the company's ongoing regional expansion plans.
The office was announced at a meeting between DIC and Verizon on May 1 in DIC. At the meeting, Verizon Business was represented by Blair Crump, group president international and premier accounts, and Ihab Tarazi, VP of global network planning, while DIC was represented by Malek Al Malek, executive director, and Majed Alsuwaidi, director of sales of Dubai Internet City.
Many Verizon Business customers and partners currently have operations within Dubai Internet City, an information technology park created by the Dubai government as a free economic zone. The park is considered by many as a strategic base for companies operating in the high-growth economies of the Middle East and North Africa region and beyond, holding the region's largest cluster of information, communications and technology enterprises.
"The Middle East is a key investment location for many of our multinational customers, and we are seeing significant investment in communication infrastructure across the region to support further growth," says Crump. "We are continuing to invest in infrastructure, solutions and service capabilities in the Middle East and around the world to better service the evolving voice and data needs of our multinational customers. This new office within the DIC complex will enhance our on-the-ground service capabilities to help our customers achieve their business goals."
The expansion is part of Verizon's massive plans for 2008, announced this past March, where it will invest in many network programs and enhancements in many areas, including China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Canada.
Already well-established in the Middle East, the company says it supports the needs of multinational customers through a combination of local partnerships, network infrastructure, professional services and customer support capabilities within the region.
The company's Middle East and North Africa customers have access to dedicated MPLS connectivity to the Verizon global Private IP network from Egypt, Kuwait, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, Verizon Business also plans to further expand into Pakistan later this year
