May 7, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- New Zealand Internet services and Web hosting provider Iconz (iconz.co.nz) announced on Monday it has purchased Singapore-based Web hosting provider WebVisions (webvisions.com) for an eight-figure sum. The all-cash purchase will help Iconz capitalize on Kiwi companies with overseas production plants.
WebVisions is a 150-employee company with offices in 11 Asian countries, including Thailand, India, the Philippines, Indonesia and China. The company offers Web hosting services, along with reselling Internet connections from regional providers.
Chief operating officer Sean Weekes enables Iconz to operate as a "one stop shop" for Kiwi companies looking for Web hosting or Internet connections for their offices in Southeast Asia and Japan. The move also enables Iconz to capitalizse on a growing trend for New Zealand companies to move manufacturing to countries with cheaper labor.
The acquisition adds 42,000 customers, which included subsidiaries of Microsoft, Johnson and Johnson and DaimlerChrysler, to Iconz' 95,000 base. This is by far the largest acquisition to date by Iconz, which has also purchased New Zealand Web hosting firms 2day.com and Webfarm.
