May 6, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider NaviSite (navisite.com) announced on Tuesday it has expanded its relationship with Sun Microsystems (sun.com) to offer software as a service to independent software vendors through the Solaris On Demand program.

The Solaris On Demand program enables ISVs to quickly develop and deliver their software applications in an on-demand environment hosted and supported by NaviSite in the US and the UK, using Sun products and technologies.
The technology and infrastructure services provided by NaviSite will enable ISVs to develop software applications that meet the availability, security and scalability needs of their own customers while cutting down their overall costs.
SaaS continues to grow significantly in demand, with a recent report by IT research and advisory firm, Gartner Group (gartner.com), revealing that the market for SaaS is expected to see a compounded annual growth rate of 22 percent through 2011. Small and medium-sized businesses that lack the resources to convert their applications will turn to SaaS as a way to complement their existing legacy systems, says Gartner.
The program allows ISVs to rapidly convert their existing applications to a SaaS model, enabling them to shift from a traditional on-premises licensing structure to one where their applications are offered on-demand without the use of a multi-tenant application platform.

The Solaris On Demand program offers NaviSite's 90-day proof-of-concept where ISVs can access hosting, hardware, managed services and backup service. The offering enables NaviSite to manage all of an ISV's applications for on-demand customers.
NaviSite also offers many optional fee-based services, including SaaS business consulting, technology consulting, application development and project management services.
