April 25, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Public Interest Registry (pir.org) the official operator of the .org Internet registry reported on Thursday that it had created a new online resource known as the .ORG Resource Center.
Why use a vendor when you can choose a partner? DataPipe delivers highly customized solutions to meet your unique IT needs. World-class data centers in the U.S., London & China. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.
The resource center, according to the registry, includes a library of information, interactive tools, examples and guides designed to "help community members harness the power of the Internet and social networks to advance their mission."
The .org domain, though commonly associated with not-for-profit organizations does not actually impose any restrictions on who is allowed to register and operate sites on .org domains. PIR seems to be interested in clearing up popular misconceptions that may exist with regard to that sort of limitation.
The .ORG Resource Center, says PIR, will work as a guide for using .org, providing examples of websites using .org in "numerous ways."
It will also offer resources aimed directly at the not-for-profit organizations known to use the domain frequently, providing a variety of tools that includes social networking and wiki building software, fundraising gadgets for websites, technology resources for nonprofits, web marketing advice, website building tools and other free widgets.
The resource center will also include the ".ORG Featured Partner Program," basically a list of companies it identifies as "trusted providers to the .org community." The Featured Partner program is currently showcasing 12 partners in categories such as marketing resources, online fundraising and technology resources for nonprofits.
