April 24, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- It was just this morning that we were writing about the "flood of ‘green' services and projects news arriving in the days surrounding Earth Day." And only a few hours later, here we are with more news related to eco-friendly data center operations.
Level 1 PCI DSS Certified Service Provider! DataPipe delivers the best network & support; top tier data centers; New York metro, Silicon Valley, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.
On Tuesday, the European network and data center services company Infonet Nederland (infonet.nl) reported that it had placed 42 cabinets with in the carrier-neutral and climate-neutral Dutch data center EvoSwitch (evoswitch.com).
Infonet says the decision to expand into EvoSwitch was based mostly on the fact that Infonet's own facilities were nearing capacity. The company says the purchase of external capacity is "for the short and medium term." It says EvoSwitch was one of the data centers around Amsterdam that had space and was able to meet Infonet's requirements for electrical capacity.
In the press release, which appears to have been issued jointly by the companies, an Infonet VP offered some awfully enthusiastic praise for EvoSwitch's technical expertise.
"The technical realisation of EvoSwitch clearly demonstrates considerable experience," says Joost Peters, Infonet's vice president of data center services. "It was remarkable that even the financial director could supply us with technical knowledge concerning the technique and the specifications. The whole operation gave us confidence concerning the realisation of our company aims and the mutual collaboration between EvoSwitch and Infonet Nederland."
EvoSwitch says its recent success in signing up clients is a validation of the timing of its decision to enter the data center market, in relation to the scarcity of data center space in the Amsterdam market. The facility opened in April 2007, just as space in the city was becoming a real concern for hosting providers and other large data center customers.
According to EvoSwitch, the data center employs a list of environmentally sound building principles and uses green electricity generated in the Dutch province of Zeland. The company believes its green building practices are one of the features that attract customers to the company. Through a collaboration with Climate Neutral Group (climateneutralgroup.com), EvoSwitch enables customers who place their equipment in its facility to display to display logos from The Green Fan partner program (thegreenfan.com) on their websites.
