April 24, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed IT infrastructure provider Terremark Worldwide (terremark.com) announced on Monday that the Collier County Public School District in Florida has signed a multi-year contract for colocation services at Terremark's NAP of the Americas facility, making it the first K-12 School District to have a presence in the NAP of the Americas.
Terremark will provide the public school district with secure and redundant colocation space and power, serving as the foundation for the school district's Internet and disaster recovery platforms. The district will house a complete disaster recovery data center facility at the NAP consisting of a SAN with synchronous data replication for data from the District's primary data center facility and its several production server applications.
Also, the district will use diverse fiber connections into the NAP on an optical DWDM network to provide highly resilient connectivity onto the district's fiber optic network and to the primary data center. The public school district managed to obtain Terremark's services based on Terremark's existing contract with Miami-Dade County, enabling Florida public school districts, counties and cities to purchase services under the Miami-Dade contract vehicle.
"With this year's Hurricane season upon us, it is imperative that we house our mission-critical infrastructure in a secure and reliable facility that provides maximum uptime," says Tom Petry, coordinator of network technology for the District School Board of Collier County. "The implementation of a data center at the NAP is crucial in the district's strategy to provide internet-based educational resources to all students and to provide a highly resilient and fast network for access to all district applications."
