According to reports on CNN.com, the news agency's website initially began to see problems around midday Thursday and took measures to isolate the trouble by limiting the number of users who could access it from specific geographic areas.

Although a CNN spokesperson said in an official statement that the organization didn't know who was responsible nor could they confirm where the DDoS attack was coming from, tech-oriented blogs in Asia, like TheDarkVisitor.com, were pointing a finger to hacker groups in China that were calling for DDoS attacks to be launched against the CNN website over the its coverage of the unrest in Tibet.

CNN says that "angry Chinese bloggers have accused CNN and several other Western news organizations of being unfair in covering recent pro-independence protests in Tibet, which is controlled by China."

Netcraft says that although CNN fixed Thursday's attack and the service was said to have returned to normal by Friday morning, it is believed an attack was organized to start on Saturday, but later cancelled.

Based on its performance monitoring graph, Netcraft says that CNN's website suffered downtime on Sunday morning within a three hour time frame, then on Monday morning, though not completely down, response times were said to have been greatly delayed.

Netcraft says it is continuing to monitor the CNN news website.
