April 14, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IT infrastructure service provider SAVVIS (savvis.net) recently announced that it has opened a second data center in Irving, Texas, sharing a site with SAVVIS' first facility, which boasts 100,000 square feet of space.
According to reports by the Dallas Morning News, the new data center, which is currently at 37,000 square feet, will employ 46 people and will be expanded by another 45,000 square feet within a year to 18 months. Dallas is believed to be one of SAVVIS' six growth markets this year.
Jim Kozlowski, VP of hosting services for SAVVIS, told the Dallas Morning News that one third of the $50 million facility is already leased and the main tenant in the new Irving data center is Utah-based software company Omniture. Omniture is currently leasing space in other SAVVIS facilities.
SAVVIS currently operates 29 data centers worldwide offering a total of 1.3 million square feet.
In other news, SAVVIS announced on Monday that it will host BATS Trading's (batstrading.com) electronic equities trading platform at its London, UK data center. Specifically, the deal will enable BATS' customers to use SAVVIS' proximity hosting solution to reduce transaction times.
BATS Trading is described by SAVVIS as one of the world's fastest growing market centers and although it is less than two years old, it has captured nearly 10 percent of matched US market share and recently announced its plans to enter the European equities market. SAVVIS will work with BATS to help the exchange replicate its Stateside success in Europe.
SAVVIS has hosted BATS Trading since its launch in the US in January 2006 and has provided proximity hosting to BATS customers since August 2007.
