March 21, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Canadian Web hosting provider Netfirms (netfirms.com) recently launched a solution that caters to customers who want to develop Web sites based both on ASP.NET and the Linux stack, according to reports.
Netfirms says its new service enables developers to use Web programming frameworks from either platform simultaneously on one Web site. Netfirms product manager Jason Matheson says the new service was created in response to customer demand and rather than just offering the ASP.NET framework, the company decided to offer the choice of developing on both.
According to reports, Netfirms' approach doesn't involve any sort of parsing or code transformations and works by executing .NET-based Web apps natively on a Windows clustered server grid and open source programs, such as those developed with Python and Ruby on Rails, on a Linux grid. Users can manage both platforms through one FTP account, SSH account or control panel and on the back-end, Netfirms directs HTTP requests to the correct cluster of servers, says the company.
Netfirms offers support for ASP, ASP.NET 1.0 and ASP 2.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, MySQL and major Linux scripting languages. The cost of the service starts at $14.95 per month, with enterprise-level service starting at $49.95 per month.
Netfirms also recently announced it has upgraded its line of business Web site hosting products, including significant disk space and bandwidth increases, as well as the ability to host unlimited Web sites on business accounts.
