March 17, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Host Department (hostdepartment.com) announced on Thursday it will undertake a server optimization project at the end of this month. It has prepared six new blade servers series, equipped with dual Intel Pentium Xeon 2.6GHz and 4GB memory, to provide load balancing optimization to all its servers for both Windows and Unix platforms.
Host Department says it will move all accounts to their assigned servers, with no effect on the production Web sites during account migration. The moving process may take three to four weeks to complete for both Windows and Unix platforms.
For Windows customers, Host Department will provide specific servers for Cold Fusion, ASP.NET and custom components to accommodate clients' applications. Accounts using Cold Fusion, ASP.NET and custom components will be moved automatically to assigned servers. For the Unix platform, the load balancing will be done without separating the application server.
"The server optimization is expected to improve servers' performance and stability," says Ivan Brunetti, Host Department's technical manager. "We will monitor the account migration process on a 24-hour basis, to ensure the smoothest migration process."
