March 14, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center owner and operator Power Loft (powerloft.com) and data center equipment provider Validus DC Systems (validusdc.com), recently announced they are building a 220,000 square foot data center facility in Manassas, Virginia.
Located in Manassas Technology Park, the nearly $200 million building will feature an energy efficient design. The environmentally-friendly enhancements could potentially save $9 million a year in energy costs, says the company.
The facility will include four greenery-matted metal screens and covered by a shrub-filled roof to trap overflow rainfall. It will also be equipped with warmer-running mechanical equipment on a separate level below the more cool-running computer servers.
"We can handle three times the computing power using half the land and a lot less [electrical] power," says Power Loft president Jim Coakley. "We're more efficient as the density grows in our building."
