February 28, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- UK managed hosting and carbon data center provider Smartbunker (smartbunker.com) announced on Wednesday that its facility has proven itself to be earthquake proof, after an earthquake hit the east coast of the UK on Wednesday morning.
The earthquake, whose epicenter measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, struck in the early hours of Wednesday less than 30 miles from Smartbunker. The company's data center is located at an ex-NATO command bunker in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Management systems at the data center revealed that the operation of its IT systems was completely unaffected by the natural disaster.
"The facility was designed and constructed to be shock resistant to counter the effects of a nuclear blast," says Kelly Smith, managing director of Smartbunker. "We could barely have been closer to an earthquake whose effects were felt as far away as Amsterdam, yet the operation of the data centre was completely unaffected. We promise all of our customers 100 percent guaranteed uptime. This event lends that promise its ringing endorsement."
