February 23, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Metro network access provider AboveNet (abovenet.com) announced on Thursday it has launched dcXchange, a data center to data center service delivering high performance connections over a dedicated DWDM core network between prime locations in the New York City and New Jersey Metro areas.
DcXchange is a pre-provisioned service that delivers DWDM, SONET and Gig-E connections for enterprise, carrier and indirect sales customers. It is supported by AboveNet's global network management center, and offers flexible support for a wide range of applications from media and expanding wireless to financial interconnection needs.
AboveNet says the service will be generally available in New York City on March 1, 2006 with additional cities to be announced shortly after.
"The success of well known IP based content and information service companies such as Google and Yahoo! delivering location-based services are driving carriers to seek innovative solutions to meet growing bandwidth needs and the aggregation of traffic that does not follow traditional patterns," says John Deering, director of carrier sales for AboveNet. "The virtualization of scarce colo space across the metro area is a key element of our offering."
