HBC selected IBM to build, manage and host its online stores, including sites for HBC retail outlets the Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters and Designer Depot. The new site enables HBC to focus on its retailing responsibilities and leave the online site operations to IBM, helping the retailer to reduce its operational costs.
"In the competitive world of retailing, a strong e-retail channel is an important part of an integrated retail strategy," says Suzanne Hillier-Geissler, GM of business intelligence for logistics and e-retail systems at HBC. "Our relationship with IBM to develop and manage our e-store means that HBC customers can truly have what they want, when they want it."
In spring 2005, IBM began developing the strategy and business plan for a new Web site in which HBC could sell its new Official Canada Olympic Team merchandise. IBM will be working with HBC to upgrade and expand its online presence and will continue to develop additional online components throughout 2006 and beyond.
