January 30, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) announced on Monday that it has released the results of its January 2008 Web Server Survey.
Netcraft says it received responses from 155,583,825 sites, reflecting a significantly slower growth of 354 thousand websites compared to last month's increase of 5.4 million sites.
Apache is also continuing its recovery after seeing a drop in its shares over the past year and a half and is currently sitting back up at over 50 percent. Netcraft says factors like the increasing number of blog sites from Microsoft and Google, that were using their own server software, had been affecting Apache's share of the Web server market, but other blogging providers like Multiply have been benefiting it.
Netcraft has also reported on the growths of some newer entrants to the survey, including lighttpd, nginx and LiteSpeed and found that while lighttpd's shares have stagnated this month, nginx and LiteSpeed have seen some good growth.
