January 25, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed hosting provider Global Netoptex (gni.com) announced on Wednesday it has acquired long-term partner Online Game Services (onlinegameservices.com) in a deal valued in excess of $3 million, enabling both companies to provide pay-as-you-grow game hosting solutions to the online games industry.
Since its inception in June 2004, OGSi has been developing its game service provider business model, providing game companies such as Ping0 and GoPets with game-specific, dedicated hosting environments and network services.
"Acquiring OGSi is a natural progression," says Derek Wise, GNi's president and CEO. "By combining their expertise in the games space with ours in managed services, we achieve increased economies of scale and efficiency to better serve our customers."
The two companies had previously announced the deployment of more than 1000 IBM BladeServers in a game-specific hosting environment in San Francisco, California designed to support millions of users across multiple game titles. They anticipate to have over 4,000 additional servers operational for games clients in 10 data centers worldwide by the end of 2007.
