January 21, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (1and1.com) announced on Monday it has extended its wide area network, bringing the total bandwidth of its data centers in Europe and the United States to more than 120Gbps.
For the first time, 1&1 is connected directly to a large Internet Exchange point outside of Europe at Equinix in Chicago, Illinois, more than tripling its external connectivity over the past twelve months. 1&1 has nearly doubled the data volume transmitted from its data centers over the past year from 3,500TB in January 2007, to 6,500TB in December 2007.
"With the upgrade of our Internet bandwidth, our millions of Web hosting customers in Europe and the US can be sure that their content will reach Internet users worldwide even faster and more reliably," says Andreas Gauger, chairman of the board at 1&1 Internet. "As a result of multimedia applications like video streaming, the demand for bandwidth has grown enormously over the last few years."
Over the next year, the company says it will concentrate on extending its US network. In March, 1&1 will more than double the external connectivity of its Lenexa, Kansas data center.
This comapny is terrible. I have used other websites with no problems - the tools for this website are difficult at best. The billing is a mess - I do not use Linux - yet the invoice me for a Linux set up - for an account they closed in Oct 07 - per my request. Now they say I am still under contract to them. Not good customer service. Think twice before you start with them. posted by: Tim | January 21, 2008 03:52PM
