January 4, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data management solutions provider NetApp (netapp.com) announced on Thursday it has signed a definitive merger agreement to acquire storage service management provider Onaro (onaro.com).

The two companies will help enterprise organizations boost data center and storage network efficiencies by managing and optimizing storage service levels for availability and performance in dynamic data center environments.

The acquistion enables NetApp to strengthen its storage and data management software portfolio, giving existing NetApp customers Onaro access to new storage service management and change management capabilities.  It will also provide Onaro customers with a significant R&D engine and financial strength to advance product development over the coming years. The combined NetApp-Onaro solution enables new customers to effectively deploy and manage service-level, large-scale storage networks using cost-effective and highly scalable modular systems.

"I am very excited about the breakthroughs we can achieve for our customers with the addition of Onaro to our manageability portfolio," says Tom Georgens, executive VP of operations at NetApp. "This deal is not just a first for the industry, but also a new opportunity for customers to rethink their large-scale storage infrastructures and gain extra confidence in the strength."
