A few weeks ago WHIRtv had the opportunity to go down to Houston to spend a few days with The Planet and learn about the company's latest initiatives, namely the two new offerings it officially launched last week - Planet Northstar Managed Hosting and Planet Alpha Dedicated Servers. WHIR reporter Justin wrote a detailed feature about this last Tuesday on our website.
One of the great things about our trip was getting to experience southern hospitality first hand; the people we got to work with for these video features were simply charming, efficient and incredibly helpful. Oh and did I mention hospitable? :) And as much as a company may try and describe the atmosphere in the office or the personality it embodies, it's not quite the same as actually being there and experiencing every little facet in person.
Exploring the company's new headquarters, located right in downtown Houston, was quite the treat as well. If you recall the magazine article Liam wrote a few issues back after his trip to The Planet, he had a fantastic description of the office space (which doesn't really feel like an office at all despite the cubicles) with it's open-concept, trendy-warehouse interior and unique view of the neighboring aquarium's ferris wheel. I'm quite excited to give you a serious visual experience of the space through these video features.
And of course, the main point of our trip, we shot a few interviews with some key players at The Planet. The first two were with Urvish Vashi, director of product management at The Planet and Doug Erwin, The Planet's CEO.
You can watch the video features here.
Doug's interview ran the gamut on everything and anything having to do with The Planet from its growth, it's challenges, the employees, the business philosophies, and of course, its new emergence into the managed hosting space.
And along the same topic, Planet Northstar and Planet Alpha were the main focus of Urvish's interview where he discusses the The Planet's efforts to adapt to the changing landscape of the hosting market and offer more choice and variety to its SMB customers.
